Drawing inspiration from ABC’s War on Waste, this speculative project presents a visual commentary on how the unchecked accumulation of single-use plastic has reshaped urban life. Structured as a narrative comic, the architectural drawing set in Fitzroy, Melbourne (Year 2030) unfolds a dystopic scenario where consumer culture embraces waste as an absolute material necessity.

Plastic is our savior!
The narrative introduces “Plastic Palace”—a subterranean and vertical complex where entry is paid in discarded plastic, deposited via an automated collection network. Inside, recycled waste fuels a closed-loop construction machine, processing raw plastic directly into dynamic spatial programs, bouncy castle floors, and entertainment zones. Utilizing advanced tunneling prototypes like the BOB-09, which simultaneously digs underground networks and 3D-prints pipe infrastructure, the city relies on a continuous supply of refuse to construct the very ground its citizens stand upon.
By framing speculative technology alongside satirical propaganda, the project critiques society’s reliance on single-use materials and illustrates a future where architecture is continuously fed by human consumption.
